I have hard tiled floor, no carpeting, no padding. I was a little skeptical about the quality, I'm 193 cm tall and 240 pounds (113 kg) and I'm not the most gentle driver. My biggest concern was that the construction would be too flimsy and the whole thing would wobble or bend. Once I was using it I was positively surprised, it more solid than I thought. Yes it moves a little, but it doesn't take you out of the game at all. This seat is designed for the Logitech G25 wheel. There are holes and screws for the G25 so installing it was super easy. Overall the whole assembly didn't take very long.
The seat itself is very nice and comfortable and seems solid enough even for my size and weight. It folds in the middle for easy storage, but don't expect too much, even when folded the whole setup is pretty large.

Are gaming seats necessary? Which is the best buy?

Many people swear by their gaming seats, especially the ones made by Playseats and I can see why. I still remember when the first generation of racing wheels appeared in gaming magazines and stores. In the beginning I thought that it was the most amazing thing. I used them on a desk most of the time or I would put it on my lap in front of the TV. After a while I was not so sure anymore. My back would get sore or the wheel would heat up or it would slip at the most inopportune time. I wasn't having much fun anymore as it was distracting me from having an immersive experience, and immersion is king when it comes to any gaming experience, especially with simulations. I found myself dreaming of a better way to get myself into this complete experience. I searched for companies that made racing seats that are designed for gaming. And to my astonishment in those days most of them costed over $2000!

Now fast forward to today. These gaming seats are so cheap that it is becoming common place to have 2 to 3 of these setups in a single household. A prominent gaming seat manufacturer is Playseats. They have many outstanding products but the best one of all is the Playseat Evolution Gaming Seat. If you follow this link to the amazon website you will see that they have a wopping 60+ 5 stars ratings! They usually have a sale on surplus stock (e.g. certain colors) so I would recommend that you buy from them.
